Gorloks Stay Unbeaten

EUREKA, Ill. – The Webster University women's basketball team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Eureka, Illinois, to take on the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Red Devils by a final score of 76-33 to improve to 8-0 on the year and 3-0 in conference play. With the loss, Eureka drops to 3-4 on the year and 1-1 in the SLIAC.

Webster went 31-for-81 (38.3%) from the floor and 3-for-17 (17.6%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Red Devils by a final count of 54-49 and pulled down 18 boards on the offensive end. They forced the Red Devils to turn the ball over 32 times in the game and turned those turnovers into 35 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 22 assists while posting 16 steals.

The Gorloks came out in the first quarter and started the game on a 14-1 run to take an early lead in the contest. They held the Red Devils to just six points in the frame and would take a 20-6 lead into the second. Webster carried over their momentum into the second and would push their lead to 25 in the first five minutes of the quarter. They would play tough defense down the stretch and took a 42-16 lead into the locker room.

Webster came out in the second half and pushed their lead to 38 with just over four minutes left to play in the frame. They would hold the Red Devils to eight points in the period and took a 62-24 lead into the final quarter. The Gorloks would extend their lead out to 40 in the fourth and never let the Red Devils back in the game as they cruised to their eighth straight win to start the year.

Bethany Lancaster led the way for Webster as she finished with a game high 17 points to go along with a team high seven rebounds. Nysa Gilchrist, Kate Rolfes, and Julie Baudendistel also finished in double figures as Gilchrist finished with 12 points, Rolfes added 11 points, and Baudendistel finished with 10 points. In addition, Jayla Dixon finished with five points and six rebounds to round out the top performers for Webster.

The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, December 9th when they travel to Greenville, Illinois, to take on the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 1 p.m.
