Gorloks Improve to 9-0

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's basketball team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Greenville, Illinois, to take on the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Panthers by a final score of 92-66 to improve to 9-0 on the season and 4-0 in SLIAC play. With the loss, the Panthers drop to 4-5 on the year and 1-2 in conference play.

Webster went 36-for-65 (55.4%) from the floor and 12-for-23 (52.2%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Panthers 26-25 with 10 of their rebounds coming on the offensive end. They forced the Panthers to turn the ball over 26 times in the game and turned those turnovers into 31 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 15 assists while racking up 15 steals.

The Gorloks came out in the first quarter and jumped out to an 18-7 lead in the first five minutes of the game. They continued to play well as the period progressed and grew their lead to as many as 18 before taking a 28-11 lead into the second. Webster would carry over their momentum into the second and started the frame on an 18-7 run to take a 28-point lead late in the half. The Panthers would cut the lead down to 20 in the final minute, but a 6-0 run to end the half put Webster up 52-26 at the break.

Greenville picked it up to start the third and cut the lead back down to 20 with six minutes to play in the period. The Gorloks would answer with 20-6 run over the final six minutes of the quarter and would take a 34 point lead into the fourth. The Panthers tried to get back into the game in the final frame but Webster closed them out down the stretch to solidify the win.

Julie Baudendistel led the way for Webster as she finished with a game high 25 points. Jordyn Grimes also played well as she finished with 14 points. In addition, Bethany Lancaster finished with 12 points and a team high six rebounds while Kate Rolfes added 11 points.

The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, December 15th when they travel to Monmouth, Illinois, to take on Monmouth (Ill.) College for a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 1 p.m.
