ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's basketball team was back in action this evening when they played host to the Blackburn (Ill.) College Beavers for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Beavers by a final score of 83-67 to improve to 12-12 on the season and 9-4 in conference play. With the loss, the Beavers fall to 7-17 on the season and 3-10 in the SLIAC.
Webster went 33-for-69 (47.8%) from the floor and 3-for-19 (15.8%) from behind the arc. They outrebouned the Beavers by a final count of 53-28 with 22 rebounds coming on the offensive end. Webster forced Blackburn to turn the ball over 14 times and turned those turnovers into 25 points on the other end of the floor. The Gorloks scored 54 of their 83 points in the paint and dished out 11 assists.
In the first half of the game, both sides came out and exchanged points early. With Webster trailing 8-7, they went on a 22-9 run to give themselves a 29-17 lead with five minutes to play in the half. The Beavers would cut the lead to five, but an 8-4 run from the Gorloks to end the half would give them a 40-31 advantage at the break.
Webster carried over their momentum into the second half and started the period on a 14-5 run to push their lead to 18 with 14 minutes remaining in the contest. They pushed their lead to as many as 25 and never let the Beavers back in the game as they cruised to their 12
th win of the season.
Karl Moore Jr. had a huge game for the Gorloks as he finished with a team high 21 points and a game high 11 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season.
Wynne Brown Jr. and
Jason Coleman also finished in double figures as Brown Jr. finished with 15 points while Coleman finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. In addition,
Alpha Diallo pulled down eight rebounds while
Jemard Sykes II finished with six.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, February 18
th when they host the Westminster (Mo.) College Blue Jays for their final game of the regular season. Prior to the start of the game, we will honor the seniors on the team for their hard work and dedication to the program. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
