CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – The Webster University men's tennis team kicked off their spring season this afternoon when they played host to the Mississippi University for Women Owls for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Owls by a final score of 9-0 to improve to 3-4 on the season.
The Gorloks got off to a great start in the spring season as they started the match by sweeping doubles.
Alex Pinkston and
Matthew Birchmeier defeated Sam Yarborough and Kaleb Webster in #1 doubles by a final score of 8-0.
Carson Fisher and
Britton Struewing defeated Allen Lewis and Lucas Suggs in #2 doubles by a final score of 8-1. Lastly, Alex McGrath and
Jack Forlenza completed the sweep in #3 doubles with an 8-0 win.
Webster carried over their momentum in the singles portion of the match as all six Gorloks picked up a win.
Alex Pinkston and
Britton Struewing had no trouble in their matches as Pinkston won 6-0 and 6-0 in #1 singles while Struewing won 6-0 and 6-0 in #2 singles.
Aaron Demarco took care of business in #3 singles as he defeated Kaleb Webster by final scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
Andrew McDonald won #4 singles as he defeated Lucas Suggs by final scores of 6-3 and 7-6 (5). Lastly,
Robert McDaniel won #5 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-1 while
Joseph West won #6 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
The Gorloks will return to the court tomorrow, February 18th when they host the Hendrix (Ark.) College Warriors for a nonconference matchup. The match is set to start at 2 p.m. at the Webster Groves Recreational Complex.
