ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's tennis team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Hendrix (Ark.) College Warriors for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Warriors by a final score of 8-1 to fall to 3-5 on the season. With the win, the Warriors improve to 3-2 on the year.
Webster had a tough time getting anything going in the doubles portion of the match.
Alex Pinkston and
Matthew Birchmeier lost #1 doubles to Agustin Kalinowski and Cason Cole by a final score of 8-5.
Carson Fisher and
Aaron Demarco fell in #2 doubles to Micah Moore and Rowan McCollum by a final score of 8-3.
Alex McGrath and
Britton Struewing fell in in #3 doubles to Matias Ancieta and Taegan Terry by a final score of 8-4.
The Gorloks struggles continued into the singles portion of the match as
Alex Pinkston fell in #1 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-4 while
Carson Fisher fell in #2 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-3.
Matthew Birchmeier nearly got the Gorloks on the board in #3 singles but eventually fell to Eric Meyne by final scores of 6-3, 4-6, and 10-6.
Britton Struewing picked up the lone point for the Gorloks in #4 singles as he defeated Micah Moore by final scores of 6-4 and 6-1. Lastly,
Aaron Demarco fell in #5 singles by final scores of 6-4 and 6-1 while
Robert McDaniel fell in #6 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-1.
The Gorloks will return to the court tomorrow, February 19
th when they travel to Bloomington, Illinois, to take on the Illinois Wesleyan University Spartans for a nonconference matchup. The match is set to start at 12 p.m.
