BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Webster men's tennis team was back in action yesterday when they traveled to Bloomington, Illinois, to take on the Illinois Wesleyan University Spartans for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Spartans by a final score of 7-2 to drop to 3-6 on the season. With the win, Illinois Wesleyan improves to 3-3 on the season.
The Gorloks got off to a good start in the doubles portion of the match as
Alex Pinkston and
Matthew Birchmeier won #1 doubles over Ian Turnbull and Carter Burk by a final score of 8-4.
Carson Fisher and
Britton Struewing fell in #2 doubles by a final score of 8-1 while
Andrew McDonald and
Alex McGrath fell in #3 doubles by a final score of 8-7 (3).
Alex Pinkston carried over his momentum into the singles portion of the match as he defeated Ian Turnbull in #1 singles by final scores of 6-4 and 6-2 to pick up the final point for Webster.
Carson Fisher fell in #2 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-2,
Matthew Birchmeier fell in #3 singles by final scores of 6-3 and 7-5,
Britton Struewing fell in #4 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-2,
Aaron Demarco fell in #5 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-0, and
Jack Forlenza dropped #6 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-0.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Friday, February 24
th when they host the College of the Ozarks (Mo.) for a nonconference matchup. The match is set to take place at Forest Lake Tennis Club in Chesterfield, Missouri, at 1 p.m.
