ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's tennis team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the University of the Ozarks (Ark.) for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Eagles by a final score of 5-4 to drop to 3-7 on the season. With the win, the Eagles improve to 2-4 on the year.
The Gorloks got off to a good start in the doubles portion of the match as
Alex Pinkston and
Matthew Birchmeier won #1 doubles over Hikaru Yamaya and Kento Iwahara by a final score of 8-7 (3). Webster fell in the final two doubles matches as
Britton Struewing and
Carson Fisher fell in #2 doubles by a final score of 8-1 while
Alex Magrath and
Nicholas Granada fell in #3 doubles by a final score of 8-5.
The Gorloks split the singles portion of the match as they won #1, #4, and #5 singles.
Alex Pinkston defeated Kento Iwahara in #1 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 7-5.
Matthew Birchmeier won #4 singles over Jan Puvill Fuertes by final scores of 6-4 and 7-5. Lastly,
Britton Struewing won #5 singles over Nico Castells by final scores of 2-6, 6-4, and 10-6.
The Gorloks will return to the court tomorrow, February 25
th when they travel to St. Clair, Illinois, to take on the McKendree (Ill.) University Bearcats for a nonconference matchup. The match is set to start at 5 p.m. at the St. Clair Racquet Club.
