ST. CLAIR, Ill. – The Webster University men's tennis team was back in action on Saturday when they traveled to St. Clair, Illinois, to take on the McKendree (Ill.) University Bearcats for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Bearcats by a final score of 6-1 to drop to 3-8 on the season.
The Gorloks were unable to pick up a win in doubles as McKendree swept all three matches.
Alex Pinkston and
Matthew Birchmeier fell in #1 doubles to Jose Velasco and Tomas Leston by a final score of 6-2.
Carson Fisher and
Britton Struewing dropped #2 doubles to Ryan Fung and Charlie Sanzo by a final score of 6-3.
Nicholas Granada and
Alex Magrath fell in #3 doubles to Ramiro Perez and Aimar Oregui by a final score of 6-2.
Alex Pinkston picked up the lone point for Webster as he defeated Jose Velasco in #1 singles by final scores of 6-3 and 7-6 (4). The rest of the Gorloks had a tough time getting anything going as
Carson Fisher fell in #2 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-2,
Nicholas Granada fell in #3 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-4,
Matthew Birchmeier fell in #4 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-0,
Britton Struewing fell in #5 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-1, and
Aaron Demarco fell in #6 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-0.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, March 4
th when they travel to Jacksonville, Illinois, to take on Illinois College for a nonconference match. The match will start at 3 p.m.
