HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Webster University men's tennis team was back in action this morning when they kicked off their spring break trip with a matchup against Western Connecticut State University. The Gorloks swept the Wolves by a final score of 9-0 to improve to 4-8 on the season. With the loss, the Wolves drop to 0-1 on the year.
Webster got off to a great start in the match as they took all three matches in doubles.
Alex Pinkston and
Matthew Birchmeier won #1 doubles as they defeated Kevin Tenesaca and Sebastian Frisch by a final score of 8-3.
Britton Struewing and
Carson Fisher won #2 doubles as they defeated Jay Kilcourse and Jerry Narcisse by a final score of 8-4. Lastly,
Alex Magrath and
Nicholas Granada won #3 doubles over Caleb Harris and Nicholas Peschier by a final score of 8-1.
The Gorloks carried over their momentum in singles as they won all six matches to solidify the sweep.
Alex Pinkston got things going in #1 singles as he defeated Kevin Tenesaca by back-to-back scores of 6-0.
Carson Fisher won #2 singles over Sebastian Frisch by final scores of 6-2 and 6-1.
Nicholas Granada defeated Jay Kilcourse in #3 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-1.
Matthew Birchmeier and
Britton Struewing both swept their matches as Birchmeier defeated Jerry Narcisse in #4 singles and Struewing won #5 singles over Caleb Harris both by final scores of 6-0 and 6-0.
Joseph West completed the sweep for Webster as he defeated Nicholas Peschier by final scores of 6-1 and 6-2.
The Gorloks will return to the court tomorrow, March 13
th when they take on Ramapo (N.J.) College in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The match is set to start at 10 a.m. EST time at Hilton Head Resort.
