ELSAH, Ill. – The Webster University women's track and field team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Elsah, Illinois, to compete in the 2023 SLIAC Indoor Championships at Principia (Ill.) College. The Gorloks took second place out of eight teams after finishing with a team score of 48. Greenville won the SLIAC Indoor Championships with a team score of 281.
Vanessa Jones led the Gorloks in points in the meet as she played a role in 30 of the teams 48 points. She finished fourth in the 200-meter run with a time of 27.59 seconds to capture four points. She finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.29 seconds to give the Gorloks eight points. She was a member of the 4x400 meter relay team along with
Olivia Nelsen,
Megan Bartz, and
Micah Barnes that finished in second place with a time of 4:24.37 to capture eight points. Lastly, she won the pole vault with a height of 2.43 meters to give Webster 10 points.
Micah Barnes and
Isabelle Llewellyn also had top three finishes for Webster. Barnes took third place in the 400-meter run with a personal record time of 1:04.58 to solidify six points for the Gorloks. Llewellyn finished in third place in the weight throw with a personal, and school, record distance of 14.15 meters to also grab six points. Llewellyn also set a new personal record in the shot put as she finished sixth with a distance of 10.51 meters.
In addition to the personal records set by Barnes and Llewellyn,
Olivia Nelsen and
Abigail Szydlowski also set personal records in their respective events. Nelsen took fifth place in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal record time of 10.87 seconds. Szydlowski set a new personal record in the weight throw after finishing seventh with a distance of 11.19 meters.

The Gorloks will wait to see if anyone has qualified for the 2023 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships when the NCAA announces the qualifiers on Sunday, March 5
th at 6 p.m.
