HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Webster University men's tennis team was back in action this morning when they wrapped up their spring break trip with a matchup against the University of Lynchburg (Va.). The Gorloks, who won their first three matches of their spring break trip, fell to the Hornets by a final score of 8-1 to fall to 6-9 on the season. With the win, the Hornets improve to 6-2 on the year.
Webster got off to a tough start as they dropped all three doubles matches.
Alex Pinkston and
Matthew Birchmeier fell in #1 doubles to Levi Vigdorchik and Lauren Muhlhause by a final score of 8-4.
Britton Struewing and
Carson Fisher fell in #2 doubles to Sierra Valencia and Alex Rintoul by a final score of 8-1. Lastly,
Alex Magrath and
Nicholas Granada fell in #3 doubles to Patricio Zepeda and Christian Zepeda by a final score of 8-7 (2).
In singles, the Gorloks were able to take one out of six matches.
Matthew Birchmeier picked up the lone win for the Gorloks as he defeated Sierra Valencia in #4 singles by final scores of 7-5, 4-6, and 10-7. In addition,
Alex Pinkston fell in #1 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-3,
Carson Fisher fell in #2 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-1,
Nicholas Granada fell in #3 singles by final scores of 6-4 and 6-3,
Britton Struewing dropped #5 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-3, and
Jack Forlenza fell in #6 singles by final scores of 6-3, 2-6, and 10-2.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Friday, March 24
th when they host Kaskaskia (Ill.) College for a nonconference matchup. The match is set to start at 1 p.m. at Webster Groves Recreational Complex.
