LAVERNE, Calif. – The Webster University baseball team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Laverne, California, to take on the University of Laverne (Calif.) for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks fell to the Leopards by a final score of 4-3 to drop to 5-7 on the season. With the win, Laverne improves to 10-8 on the year.
The Gorloks finished with six hits in the contest. The Leopards got on the board first in the bottom of the second when they rallied for two runs to take an early lead. The Gorloks answered with two runs in the top of the fourth, but a run from Laverne in the bottom of the seventh would give the Leopards a 3-2 lead in the game.
R.J. LaRocco would hit an RBI single in the top of the eighth to tie the score at three, but a walk-off base hit from the Leopards in the bottom of the ninth would solidify the win.
Jordan Smevoll was the starting pitcher for the Gorloks as he allowed four hits and three earned runs while striking out four in 6.0 innings.
Ben Kowalski (0-2) pitched in relief as he allowed four hits and one earned run in the final 2.0 innings of the game.
R.J. LaRocco led the way for Webster as he went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. In addition,
Malik Wirges and
Ben Swords each added an RBI while
Evan Evola and
Parker Wielt each scored a run.
The Gorloks will play their final game of their spring break trip tomorrow, March 18
th when they travel to Los Angeles, California, to take on Occidental (Calif.) College for a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 11 a.m. PST.
