ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced the Player of the Week awards for the week ending on Sunday, April 9
th. For their efforts this past week,
Alek Elges was named the SLIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week while
Elijah Perez was named the SLIAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week.
Elges, a junior out of Littleton, Colorado, pitched a great game in his lone appearance on the week. He allowed just four hits and one earned run while striking out nine in a complete game win over Eureka (Ill.) College. Elges is currently 4-1 in seven starts this season and has a 3.65 earned run average. He currently leads the team with 49.1 innings pitched and has tossed a team high 41 strikeouts. This is his third career SLIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week award.
Perez, a graduate student out of Waynesville, Missouri, played a role in 18 of the Gorloks 36 points over the weekend at the True Blue Open. He took first place in the 200-meter run with a final time of 22.40 seconds to capture 10 points for the Gorloks. He then went on to compete on the 4x100 meter relay team along with
Steven Aubuchon,
Austin Merritt, and
Joshua Clark that finished in third place with a time of 42.85 seconds to score six points. Lastly, Perez competed in the javelin throw where he finished with a distance of 34.36 meters to grab two points. This is his third career SLIAC Track Athlete of the Week award.
