GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Webster University men's tennis team was back in action yesterday as they traveled to Greenville, Illinois, to take on the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers for a UMAC matchup The Gorloks were defeated by the Panthers by a final score of 9-0 to fall to 9-13 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. With the win, the Panthers improve to 17-7 on the season and 2-0 in the UMAC.
The Gorloks had a tough time getting anything going in doubles as they lost all three matches.
Alex Pinkston and
Matthew Birchmeier came close to winning #1 doubles but ultimately fell to Andres Sanchez and Rafael Rodriguez by a final score of 8-6.
Carson Fisher and
Britton Struewing dropped #2 doubles by a final score of 8-1 while
Alex Magrath and
Jack Forlenza dropped #3 doubles by a final score of 8-1.
In singles,
Alex Pinkston nearly picked up a point in #1 singles but eventually fell to Andres Sanchez by final scores of 4-6, 6-1, and 10-6.
Carson Fisher dropped #2 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-1,
Matthew Birchmeier dropped #3 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-1,
Britton Struewing fell in #4 singles by final scores of 6-3 and 6-3,
Robert McDaniel dropped #5 singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-2, and Alex McGrath fell in #5 singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-1.
The Gorloks will return to the courts on Sunday, April 16
th when they host the Westminster (Mo.) College Blue Jays for their final home matches of the season. The teams will play a doubleheader at Webster Grove Recreational Complex starting at 10 a.m. These matches will serve as Senior Day for the Gorloks and the team will honor the seniors following the first match.
