ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's tennis team played three matches over the weekend. On Saturday, the Gorloks fell to Missouri Valley College by a final score of 9-0. On Sunday, the Gorloks dropped a match to Millikin (Ill.) University by a final score of 9-0 before bouncing back to defeat Roosevelt (Ill.) University by a final score of 6-1. Webster now moves to 9-11 on the season.
In their first match against Missouri Valley, the Gorloks had a tough time getting anything going in doubles.
Alex Pinkston and
Matthew Birchmeier fell in #1 doubles by a final score of 8-3.
Carson Fisher and
Britton Struewing dropped #2 doubles by a final score of 8-4.
Nicholas Granada and
Alex Magrath fell in #3 doubles by a final score of 8-0.
Webster's struggles continued into the singles portion of the match.
Alex Pinkston was the closest to picking up a point for the Gorloks but he fell in #1 singles to Kaito Tanitsu by final scores of 4-6, 6-4, and 6-10.
In their match against Millikin, Webster was unable to pick up a point in doubles.
Alex Pinkston and
Matthew Birchmeier came close to winning in #1 doubles but ultimately fell to Hasting Bjorkman and Martin Cardestig by a final score of 8-7 (2). In addition,
Carson Fisher and
Britton Struewing fell in #2 doubles by a final score of 8-2 while
Nicholas Granada and
Alex Magrath fell in #3 doubles by a final score of 8-5.
In singles,
Alex Pinkston fell in #1 singles by final scores of 7-5 and 6-2,
Carson Fisher fell in #2 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-0,
Nicholas Granada fell in #3 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-2,
Matthew Birchmeier fell in #4 singles by final scores of 6-3 and 6-1,
Britton Struewing dropped #5 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-0, and
Robert McDaniel fell in #6 singles by final scores of 6-4 and 6-1.
In their final match of the weekend against Roosevelt, the Gorloks took two out of three in doubles to solidify a point.
Alex Pinkston and
Matthew Birchmeier won #1 doubles over Justin Magale and Juan Pablo Espinosa by a final score of 7-5.
Nicholas Granada and
Alex Magrath won #3 doubles by forfeit.
In singles, Webster took five out of six matches to solidify the win.
Alex Pinkston won #1 singles over Justin Magale by final scores of 6-0 and 6-2.
Nicholas Granada won #3 singles over Conor Pacelli by final scores of 6-2 and 6-4.
Britton Struewing defeated Jorge Gutierrez in #4 singles by final scores of 4-6, 6-2, and 10-0. Lastly,
Robert McDaniel and
Joseph West won #5 and #6 singles by forfeit.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Tuesday, April 4
th when they travel to Elsah, Illinois, to take on Principia (Ill.) College for their first UMAC matchup of the season. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
