ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's tennis team was back in action this evening when they played host to the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy for a nonconference match. The Gorloks defeated the Eutectics by a final score of 5-4 to improve to 10-12 on the season.
The Gorloks got off to a great start in doubles as they took two out of three matches.
Alex Pinkston and
Matthew Birchmeier got things going for Webster as they defeated Alvaro Montijano and James Bamberger in #1 doubles by a final score of 8-7 (5). After dropping #2 doubles,
Nicholas Granada and
Jack Forlenza won #3 doubles over Othaniel Marcellus and Alec Johnson by a final score of 8-1.
Webster got off to a tough start in singles but were able to capture three points to solidify the win. After dropping the first three singles matches,
Nicholas Granada got the Gorloks back on track as he defeated James Bamberger in #4 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-2.
Britton Struewing won #5 singles as he defeated Alec Johnson by final scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
Robert McDaniel notched the final point for the Gorloks as he won #6 singles over Othaniel Marcellus by final scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Wednesday, April 12
th when they travel to Greenville, Illinois, to take on the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers for a UMAC matchup. The match is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
