O'FALLON, Mo. – The Webster University baseball team was back in action this afternoon when they took on the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles in the SLIAC Baseball Tournament. The top seeded Gorloks defeated the second seeded Golden Eagles by a final score of 3-0 to advance to the SLIAC Baseball Tournament Final. With the loss, the Golden Eagles will take on Westminster (Mo.) College tonight in an elimination game.
It was a well-pitched game on both sides as neither team was able to score a run through the first six innings. Webster was able to get on the board in the bottom of the seventh as
Matt Staker hit a two-run double to give the Gorloks a 2-0 lead. Later that inning, Staker was able to score on an RBI double from
R.J. LaRocco to give Webster a 3-0 lead. The Golden Eagles struggled to get anything going down the final stretch of the game as the Gorloks closed them out to solidify their spot in the SLIAC Baseball Tournament Final.
Ben Kowalski (4-3) pitched a great game for the Gorloks as he allowed just five hits while striking out seven in 8.2 scoreless innings.
Joel Arsenault was able to pick up the final out of the game.
Webster rallied for six hits in the contest.

Ben Swords, and
Matt Staker accounted for all six hits as they each recorded two hits in the game. LaRocco also recorded an RBI while Staker finished with two.
The Gorloks will return to the diamond tomorrow, May 13
th when they take on the winner of tonight's game between Westminster (Mo.) College and Spalding (Ky.) University at CarShield Field in O'Fallon, Missouri. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
