FRANKLIN, IND. – The Webster University men's tennis team traveled to Franklin, Indiana, yesterday to take on Trine (Ind.) University and Franklin (Ind.) College for a nonconference doubleheader. The Gorloks lost both of their matches as they fell to Trine by a final score of 9-0 and to Franklin by a final score of 5-4 to drop to 1-2 on the season.
Webster had a tough time getting anything going against Trine as they were unable to record a point.
Ethan Foucheaux and
Jackson Smock played the best match in #2 doubles but were ultimately defeated by a final score of 8-5. Foucheaux also came close to forcing a third game in #4 singles but fell to Andrew Sparrison by final scores of 6-3 and 7-5.
In doubles against Franklin,
Matthew Birchmeier and
Ethan Foucheaux were able to pick up the Gorloks first point of the day as they defeated Layton Stieneker and Dustin Garrison in #1 doubles by a final score of 8-6.
The Gorloks were able to win three out of six in singles against Franklin.
Ethan Foucheaux won #2 singles over Jaden Wells by final scores of 6-1 and 6-3,
Carson Fisher won #3 singles over Dustin Garrison by final scores of 6-4 and 6-2, and
Jack Forlenza defeated Erza Schwier in #6 singles by final scores of 6-4 and 7-5.
The
Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, September 16
th when they host Anderson (Ind.) University for a nonconference matchup. The match is set to start at 4 p.m. at Webster Groves Recreational Complex.
