ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's tennis team kicked off their season this afternoon when they played host to Illinois College at Webster Groves Recreational Complex. The Gorloks defeated Illinois College by a final score of 8-1 to improve to 1-0 on the season.
The Gorloks got off to a great start in the match as they swept doubles.
Matthew Birchmeier and
Ethan Foucheaux defeated Jeff Wernsing and Glenn Conway in #1 doubles by a final score of 8-0.
Tyler Gonzalez and
Carson Fisher won #2 doubles over Andrus and Grayson Dupre by a final score of 8-2.
Jack Forlenza and
Andrew McDonald completed the doubles sweep by winning #3 doubles over Allen Oakley and Antonio Loaiza by a final score of 8-0.
Webster carried over their momentum into the singles portion of the match as they took five out of six points.
Matthew Birchmeier won #1 singles over Jeff Wernsing by final scores of 6-2 and 6-2.
Ethan Foucheaux won #2 singles over Glenn Conway by final scores of 6-4 and 6-2.
Carson Fisher won #3 singles over Grayson Dupre by final scores of 6-1 and 6-2.
Jackson Smock took #5 singles over Allen Oakley by final scores of 6-0 and 6-2. Lastly,
Joseph West won #6 singles over Antonio Loaiza by final scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, September 9
th when they travel to Franklin, Indiana, to take on Trine (Ind.) University and Franklin (Ind.) College. Webster will take on Franklin at 1 p.m. and Trine at 4 p.m. at the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
