ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's soccer team was back in action this evening when they played host to the Blackburn (Ill.) College Beavers for their first SLIAC game of the season. After a long weather delay, the Gorloks defeated the Beavers by a final score of 10-0 to improve to 4-2-1 on the year and 1-0 in the SLIAC. With the loss, Blackburn drops to 3-3-3 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play.
Webster outshot Blackburn by a final count of 47-0 and had 30 shots on target. The Gorloks also led in the corner count as they finished with 13 while Blackburn did not have any.
The Gorloks came out in the first half and dominated the possession from the start.
Grace Rodgers got Webster on the board in the 25
th minute as she finished off a pass from
Abbey Poe for her third goal of the season to give Webster a 1-0 lead.
Malaya Blakely extended the Gorloks lead as she scored her fifth and sixth tallies of the season in the 29
th minute and the 35
th minute to extend Websters lead to 3-0.
Emily Buchholz finished off the scoring in the first half as she scored her first goal of the season after heading in a corner kick from
Payton Harting in the 40
th.
Webster continued to dominate in the second half as they scored six goals in the period.
Grace Rodgers got the scoring going in the second half as she finished off her second of the game in the 47
th minute to give Webster a 5-0 lead.
Jordan Bilyeu and
Payton Montana extended their Gorloks lead to seven as Bilyeu scored her first of the season in the 48
th minute while Montana scored her first of the year in the 51
st minute.
Abbey Poe,
Mya Stegen, and
Hope Dedic finished off the scoring for Webster as Poe scored her second of the season in the 54
th minute, Stegen scored her first of the year in the 56
th minute, and Dedic finished off her first of the year in the 68
th minute. Stegen and Rodgers also recorded assists in the half.
Courtney Haneline (4-2-1) was the keeper for Webster as she recorded her second solo shutout of the season.
The Gorloks will return to the pitch on Saturday, September 30
th when they host the Westminster (Mo.) College Blue Jays for a SLIAC matchup. The game will kick off at 4:30 p.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
