Gorloks Extend Streak to Six

COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Webster University men's basketball team was back in action this evening when they traveled to Columbus, Mississippi, to take on the Mississippi University for Women Owls for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Owls by a final score of 69-56 to improve to 8-8 on the season and 6-3 in the SLIAC. With the loss, the Owls fall to 6-9 on the season and 2-6 in conference play.

Webster went 23-for-53 (43.4%) from the floor and 7-for-18 (38.9%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Owls by a final count of 38-32 with 14 rebounds coming on the offensive end. Webster forced MUW to turn the ball over 19 times in the game and turned those turnovers into 17 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 17 assists in the contest.

Webster came out in the first half of the game and jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the first four minutes. The Owls would cut the lead to one over the next few minutes, but a 12-4 run from the Gorloks would put them up 22-13 midway through the half. Webster would continue to play well down the final stretch of the period and would outscore the Owls 9-6 in the final minutes to take a 31-19 lead into the locker room.

The Gorloks would carry their momentum over into the second half and quickly grew their lead to 14 in the first two minutes. The Owls would cut the lead to single digits over the next few minutes, but another run from Webster would extend their lead to 18 with just over nine minutes to play in the game. The Owls did their best to get back in the game down the stretch but the Gorloks held them off to solidify their sixth straight win.

Nate Jones led the way offensively for Webster as he finished with a game high 20 points. Karl Moore Jr. also finished in double figures as he finished with 10 points. In addition, Jason Coleman finished with eight points and a team high seven rebounds while Allen Grahovic added eight points.

The Gorloks will continue their road trip on Saturday, January 20th when they travel to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to tip off at 3 p.m.
