Gorloks Hit Century Mark in Batesville

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Webster University women's basketball team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Batesville, Arkansas, to take on the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Scots by a final score of 100-87 to improve to 17-0 on the season and 10-0 in conference play. With the loss, Lyon drops to 9-7 on the year and 4-5 in the SLIAC.

Webster went 40-for-67 (59.7%) from the floor and 8-for-19 (42.1%) from behind the arc. They were outrebounded by a final count of 29-27 with nine rebounds coming on the offensive end. The Gorloks forced the Scots to turn the ball over 19 times in the game while turning those turnovers into 28 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 20 assists while going 12-for-15 (80%) from the free throw line.

Webster came out in the first quarter and jumped all over the Scots from the start as they went on a 13-2 run to start the game and take an early lead. The Gorloks would push their lead out to as many as 12 in the quarter, but a 13-3 run from the Scots to end the period put them down just 27-25 heading into the second. Webster would pick it up to start the second and went on a 9-0 run in the first four minutes of the quarter to extend their lead back out to 11. They pushed their lead to 13 late in the half, but an 8-2 run from Lyon to end the half put the Gorloks up 52-45 at the break.

The Scots carried their momentum into the second half and cut the Gorloks lead to two in the first four minutes of the third quarter. The Gorloks would settle in as the quarter progressed and answered with a 15-9 run down the final stretch of the period to take a 71-63 lead into the fourth. The Scots would cut the lead to as many as five late in the fourth, but the Gorloks would end the game on a 19-11 run to solidify their 17th straight win to start the season.

Kate Rolfes led the way for Webster as she finished with a career high 25 points after going 10-for-15 (66.7%) from floor with five threes. Bethany Lancaster and Julie Baudendistel also had great games as Lancaster finished with 24 points and seven rebounds while Baudendistel finished with 22 points and a team high eight rebounds. In addition, Jordyn Grimes added nine points while Nysa Gilchrist dished out a team high six assists.

The Gorloks will return home for their next game when they host the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils on Wednesday, January 24th in Grant Gymnasium. The game is set to start at 5:30 p.m.
