Four Gorloks Achieve Double-Figures In Victory Over Westminster

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University men's basketball team opened conference play hosting Westminster College Tuesday evening in Grant Gymnasium. The Gorloks had four student-athletes achieve double-digit scoring marks that led to a dominant 82-66 victory over Westminster College. With the victory, the Gorloks secured their first win of the season and started conference play in the win column. 

In the opening five minutes of play, Webster jumped out to an early 11-3 advantage that started on a layup by Karl Moore Jr. that was assisted by Justin Ugo. Moments later, WU's Josh Luster recorded five consecutive points while Sebastian Reed added two baskets. 

Less than two minutes later, the Blue Jays countered with a 9-2 run that cut the lead down to one at 13-12. Midway through the first half, senior Alpha Diallo increased the lead to three at 17-14 with back-to-back baskets. 

Webster and Westminster continued this battle by exchanging baskets as a layup by WC's Luke Abeln cut the lead down to two at 25-23. With five minutes remaining in the first half, the Gorloks answered with a 11-0 run that started on a three-point basket by Jemard Sykes II. In addition, Reed added four points while Diallo and Moore Jr added a basket. WU's Moore Jr closed out the half with a massive dunk that gave the Gorloks the 38-25 lead at halftime. 

The Blue Jays opened the second half with an 11-1 run that cut the lead down to three at 39-36. Moments later, the Gorloks countered with a 21-6 run that generated the 18-point lead at 60-42. In the run, Luster contributed seven points as Jonah Hibbert drained a pair of three-point baskets. In addition, Ugo added three baskets which included a dunk and capped off the run by sinking a pair of free-throws. 

With eight minutes left in the game, the Gorloks answered with a 15-4 run that generated the lead of 82-55. In the run, Sykes II contributed six points as Reed added five points. In addition, Luster added a basket before Will Burroughs capped off the run with a layup. In the final minutes of regulation, the Blue Jays responded with an 11-0 run that generated the final score.    

For the game, four student-athletes recorded double-figures led by Luster with 16 points while Reed added 15 off the bench. In addition, Sykes II recorded 13 points as Ugo contributed 10 points. At the glass, Moore Jr. led the team with 10 rebounds while Ugo and Reed collected six apiece. Defensively, the Gorloks generated 10 steals as Luster, Reed, and Allen Grahovic secured two each. 

As a team, the Gorloks outscored the Blue Jays 34-23 on bench points while shooting 47.8 percent from the field. 

The Gorloks will travel to the state of Alabama on Saturday, November 30 to face off against the Tigers of University of West Alabama for an exhibition game starting at 2:00PM in Livingston, Alabama.
