Gorloks Fall To Tigers In Exhibition Decision

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The Webster University men's basketball team hit the road for the second time this season with a visit to the University of West Alabama for an exhibition decision Saturday afternoon. The Gorloks battled the Tigers but fell just short by the final score of 60-72. WU's Karl Moore Jr. recorded his second double-double of the season that included 22 points and 15 rebounds while adding six blocks. 

The Gorloks opened this exhibition decision with the early 7-4 lead that included baskets from Josh Luster, Sebastian Reed, and Moore Jr. Moments later, the Tigers answered with a 9-2 run that generated a four-point deficit at 9-13. Immediately following the UWA run, Webster countered with an 8-3 run that took the 17-16 lead. In the run, Moore Jr added a layup while Reed and Jonah Hibbert netted a three-point basket each. 

Midway through the first half, The Gorloks and Tigers exchanged baskets as a three-pointer by Luster gave Webster the 26-23 lead. At the 6:52 mark, UWA answered with an 8-0 run that was eventually snapped on a layup by Moore Jr that cut the deficit down to three 28-31. The Tigers closed out the first half with a 7-2 run that generated a halftime deficit of 30-38. 

In the early portion of the second half, the Gorloks answered with a 12-0 run that took the 42-41 advantage. In the run, Moore Jr contributed four points while Jemard Sykes II drained a deep three-point basket. In addition, Reed added a fastbreak layup as Gabe Mccrary capped off the run with a conventional three-point play.

At the 14:51 mark, the Tigers answered with a 10-3 run that generated a six-point deficit at 45-51 that included a three-point basket from Mccrary. For the next five minutes of play, Webster and UWA exchanged baskets that included layups by Justin Ugo and Reed that made the score 49-55. 

With less than five minutes remaining on the clock, Moore Jr recorded six consecutive points for the Gorloks that kept the deficit of six at 58-64. The Tigers closed out this decision with an 8-2 run that generated the final score. 

In addition to Moore Jr, Reed contributed 11 points and seven rebounds. Defensively, four student-athletes recorded one steal while Luster added one block. 

The Gorloks will continue conference play hosting Lyon College on Thursday, December 5 at 7:30PM in Grant Gymnasium.
