WU’s Wilson Records Career-High 32 Points In Road Victory Over Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Webster University women's basketball team experienced their first road trip of the season with a visit to Augustana College Saturday afternoon. The Gorloks extended their win streak to five games with an 80-68 victory over Augustana College. WU's Emily Wilson recorded a career-high 32 points while shooting 12-of-19 from the field and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line.

The Gorloks opened this non-conference decision with the early 5-3 lead that included five consecutive points by Bethany Lancaster. Moments later, the Vikings responded with a 7-3 run that took the 10-8 lead that included a deep three-point basket by Rylee Denbow. Less than a minute later, Grace Hupp tied the game at 10 apiece with her first basket of the season. 

With two and a half minutes remaining in the opening quarter, Augustana erupted for a 14-2 run that included a pair of free-throws by Wilson. WU's Lancaster added the final points of the quarter with a jump shot in the paint that made the score 14-25. 

The Gorloks opened the second quarter with back-to-back baskets by Wilson that cut the deficit down to seven at 18-25. Shortly later, the Vikings increased their lead back to double-digit at 20-31 with a 6-2 run. At the 6:03 mark in the quarter, the Gorloks countered with a 9-2 run that cut the deficit down to four at 29-33. In the run, Lancaster added four points while Claire Williams drained a three-point basket as Wilson knocked down a pair of free-throws. For the remainder of the half, Webster and Augustana exchanged baskets that generated a two-point halftime deficit of 37-39 as Wilson added four points. 

In the opening minutes of the third quarter, Wilson responded with four consecutive points that tied the game at 41 apiece. Moments later, the Gorloks countered with a 12-3 run and took their first lead of the game at 53-46. In the run, Wilson contributed six points while Lancaster, Nolen, and Williams added a basket each. The Gorloks and Vikings closed out the quarter exchanging points that generated a five-point lead of 57-52. 

The Gorloks opened the final quarter with a 11-0 run that increased the lead to double-digits at 68-52. In the run, Wilson contributed four points while Denbow cashed in on a three-point basket as Gilchrist and Williams added a basket each. Moments later, the Vikings chipped back with a 7-0 run that cut the lead down to nine at 68-59. 

With just over three minutes remaining in regulation, Webster answered with a 6-2 run that increased the lead back to double-digits at 76-63. In the run, Wilson added another basket while Nolen and Aleyna Sherman contributed points at the free-throw line. Wilson and Lancaster closed out the scoring for Webster with two points each that led to the victory.   

For the game, Wilson and Lancaster combined for 53 points as Lancaster contributed 21 points while leading the team with eight rebounds. In addition, Williams added seven points while Nolen and Denbow added six points each. Defensively, Gilchrist recorded a career-high eight steals as Wilson swiped four. 

The Gorloks will revert back to conference play on Thursday, December 5 hosting Lyon College at 5:30PM in Grant Gymnasium.
