Three Second Half Goals Secure Shutout Over Principia; Gorloks Advance To SLIAC Championship Match

ELSAH, Ill. - The Webster University men's soccer team continued SLIAC post-season play with a visit to Principia College Wednesday evening. The Gorloks extended their unbeaten streak to seven matches with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Panthers to advance to the SLIAC championship match. 

In the first 15 minutes of action, the Gorloks and Panthers battled back-and-forth that included three shots by Principia as Luke Dillon recorded his first save of the night. Shortly later, in the 22nd minute, the Gorloks earned a corner kick that resulted in a shot just wide by Hayden Hatley

For the next 10 minutes of play, Principia attacked the Webster defense and blasted four shots as Dillon recorded another save that kept the match scoreless. In the final minutes of the half, the Gorloks countered with an offensive attack that resulted in a shot by Scott Price. Webster and Principia went into the halftime intermission scoreless. 

On the second half kickoff, the Gorloks sent the ball near the box that resulted in a shot on goal by Aiden Sopov but it was saved by Jacob Ellis. Shortly later, in the 48th minute, the Gorloks had another scoring opportunity when Danny Nusinovic blasted a shot but went out wide right. 
Two minutes later, the Gorlok formed another great offensive attack that resulted in a shot out high by Oscar Solis.    

Webster and Principia continued the match battling between the endlines as both teams recorded at least two shots and no goals. Moments later, in the 62nd minute, the Gorloks formed another strong offensive attack that resulted in a goal by Price which was assisted by Logan Hazel

Midway though the second half, Webster sent the ball in the attacking half when Hatley found a cutting Hazel near the box that resulted in a goal by Hazel for the 2-0 lead. 

Eight minutes later, in the 82nd minute, Webster countered with another offensive attack when Andy Mujezinovic delivered a fantastic pass to Elmin Lemes in stride when Lemes ripped a shot in the back of the net that closed out the match. 

For the match, Price and Hatley led the offensive attack with three shots each while Sopov blasted two shots. Defensively, Dillon secured his sixth shutout of the season that included six saves.

Fourth-seeded Spalding University took down the number seed Greenville Panthers by the final score of 2-1 to advance to the championship match. 

With that outcome, the Gorloks who earned the third-seed, are set to host the SLIAC Championship match this Saturday, November 9th against Spalding.
