Gorloks Complete Undefeated Regular Season

auST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's basketball team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots for their final game of the regular season. The Gorloks defeated the Scots by a final score of 102-79 to improve to 25-0 on the season and 18-0 in SLIAC play. With the loss, Lyon drops to 15-10 on the year and 10-8 in the conference.

Prior to the start of the game, the Gorloks honored the five seniors on the team for their hard work and dedication to the program while sporting a Gorlok uniform. Bethany Lancaster, Kate Rolfes, Jordyn Grimes, Rachel Drennan and Taylor Brown were all recognized.

The Gorloks went 39-for-73 (53.4%) from the floor and 5-for-14 (35.7%) from behind the arc. They were outrebounded by a final count of 42-36 with 11 rebounds coming on the offensive end. They forced the Scots to turn the ball over 26 times in the game turned those turnovers into 20 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 27 assists while racking up 14 steals.

Webster came out in the first quarter of the game and jumped all over the Scots as they went on a 14-5 run to start the contest to take an early lead. The Scots would cut the lead to eight over the next few minutes, but a 24-10 run to end the period put the Gorloks up 38-16 heading into the second. Webster would push their lead to as many as 24 in the second and would take a 61-40 lead into the locker room.

The Scots came out in the second half and went on a 9-3 run to cut the lead to 15 with seven minutes to play in the quarter. Webster would outscore the Scots 19-12 down the final stretch of the third and would take an 83-61 lead into the fourth. The Scots would score the first basket of the fourth to cut the lead to 20, but a 12-4 run from Webster pushed their lead back to 28 with just over six minutes to play in the game. They never let the Scots back into the contest and cruised to their 25th straight win to complete their undefeated regular season.

The Gorloks had five players finish in double figures in this one including Bethany Lancaster who finished with a game high 25 points to go along with a team high eight assists. In addition, Julie Baudendistel finished with 21 points, Nysa Gilchrist added 16 points, Emily Wilson recorded 14 points, and Kate Rolfes added 13 points. Rolfes also finished with a game high seven assists while Gilchrist added six rebounds.

The win today completes the Gorloks second undefeated regular season in the last three years. They have earned the top seed in the SLIAC Tournament and will host their semifinal matchup against the lowest remaining seed on Friday, February 23rd at 7:30 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
