CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – The Webster University men's tennis team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to Shawnee State (Ohio) University for a nonconference matchup at Forest Lake Tennis Center. The Gorloks fell to the Bears by a final score of 7-2 to drop to 2-5 on the season. With the win, Shawnee State improves to 3-7 on the year.
The Gorloks got off to a tough start in the doubles portion of the match as the Bears took two out of three points. After dropping #1 and #2 doubles,
Andrew McDonald and
Jack Forlenza were able to get Webster on the board in #3 doubles as they defeated Keenan Lambert and Zinedane Arva Purbo by a final score of 8-3.
In singles,
Ethan Foucheaux picked up the lone point for Webster as he defeated Ishmael Dowuona in #2 singles by final scores of 6-4 and 6-0. In addition to Foucheaux,
Matthew Birchmeier dropped #1 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-1,
Carson Fisher fell in #3 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-4,
Robert McDaniel dropped #4 singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-2,
Jack Forlenza lost in #5 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-5, and
Tyler Gonzales fell in #6 singles by final scores of 6-4 and 6-1.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, March 2
nd when they travel to Conway, Arkansas, to take on Hendrix (Ark.) College for a nonconference matchup. The match is set to start at 10 a.m.
