ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's basketball team was back in action this evening when they played host to the Blackburn (Ill.) College Beavers for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Beavers by a final score of 100-43 to improve to 22-0 on the season and 15-0 in the SLIAC. With the loss, Blackburn drops to 3-19 on the season and 0-15 in conference play.
The win today solidifies the Gorloks fifth straight SLIAC Regular Season Title. They have solidified the top seed in the SLIAC Tournament and have earned a bye in the quarterfinal round.
Webster went 42-for-75 (56.0%) from the floor and 6-for-15 (40.0%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Beavers by a final count of 47-33 with 19 boards coming on the offensive end. They forced the Beavers to turn the ball over 36 times in the game and turned those turnovers into 36 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 22 assists while recording 22 steals.
Webster got off to a great start in this one as they jumped out to a 17-4 lead in the first four minutes of the game. The Beavers would cut the lead to 11, but a 20-6 run from Webster to end the quarter would put them up 37-12 heading into the second. The Gorloks would carry their momentum into the second and started the frame on a 14-4 run to extend their lead to 51-16. They would outscore the Beavers 14-6 down the stretch and they would take a 65-22 lead into the locker room.
Webster came out of the locker room and had a tough time getting anything going offensively as they were held to just 13 points in the quarter. They played tough defense throughout the period and held the Beavers to just eight points in the frame as Webster would take a 78-30 lead into the fourth. The Gorloks would push their lead out to as many as 58 in the final frame and would cruise to their 22
nd win to start the season.
Webster had 16 different players find the scorebook in this one including
Bethany Lancaster who finished with 12 points and a game high 13 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season.
Julie Baudendistel,
Kate Rolfes, and
Megan Illingworth also finished in double figures as Baudendistel had a game high 14 points, Rolfes finished with 11 points, and Illingworth added 10. Illingworth also added a game high four assists while pulling down five rebounds.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, February 10
th when they travel down the street to take on Fontbonne (Mo.) University for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 1 p.m.
