HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Webster University men's tennis team kicked off their spring break trip today when they traveled to Hilton Head, South Carolina, to take on Maryville (Tenn.) College and Denison (Pa.) College. The Gorloks swept their doubleheader as they won their first match against Maryville by a final score of 5-4 before defeating Dickinson by a final score of 5-4. The sweep moves Webster to 4-7 on the year.
In their first match against Maryville, the Gorloks got off to a great start in doubles after taking two out of three points. After dropping a closely contested #1 doubles match, the Gorloks were able to solidify wins in #2 doubles and #3 doubles.
Ethan Foucheaux and
Tyler Gonzales won #2 doubles as they defeated Gabriel Villalonga and Seth Green by a final score of 8-4.
Robert McDaniel and
Jack Forlenza won #3 doubles over Ben Wyrick and Kaleb Burke by a final score of 8-4.
The Gorloks were able to capture three points in the singles portion of the match to solidify the win.
Ethan Foucheaux won #2 singles over Jonathan Crane by final scores of 6-2 and 6-2.
Carson Fisher won #3 singles over Jackson Meyer by final scores of 2-6, 6-2, and 10-3.
Robert McDaniel recorded the final point for Webster as he defeated Gabriel Villalonga in #4 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-3.
In the second match of the day, Webster got off to a slow start as they picked up one out of three possible points in doubles.
Matthew Birchmeier and
Carson Fisher won #1 doubles as they defeated Levi Veleanu and DJ Finnell by a final score of 8-2.
The Gorloks picked it up in singles as they took four out of six points.
Matthew Birchmeier won #1 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-4,
Ethan Foucheaux won #2 singles by final scores of 6-4 and 7-5,
Carson Fisher won #3 singles by final scores of 6-3 and 6-1, and
Robert McDaniel won #4 singles by final scores of 6-3 and 6-2.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Wednesday, March 13
th when they take on Shepard (W.V.) University. The match is set to start at 10 a.m. EST in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
