HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Webster University men's tennis team was back in action this morning when they took on Shepard (W.V.) University for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Rams by a final score of 7-0 to drop to 4-8 on the year.
The Gorloks and Rams played NCAA Division II tennis rules with doubles counting as one point. The Rams captured the lone point in doubles as they defeated the Gorloks in all three matches.
Matthew Birchmeier and
Carson Fisher fell in #1 doubles to Arka Genguly and Nicholas Espinoza by a final score of 6-0.
Ethan Foucheaux and
Tyler Gonzales dropped #2 doubles to Fabian Telschow and Curry Taylor by a final score of 6-2. Lastly,
Robert McDaniel and
Jack Forlenza fell in #3 doubles to Jeremy Williams and Hamilton Hall by a final score of 6-2.
The Gorloks struggles continued in the singles portion of the match as they were unable to get on the board. Despite falling in all six matches, the Gorloks played highly competitive matches in #2 thru #5 singles.
Matthew Birchmeier fell in #2 singles to Nicholas Espinoza by final scores of 6-1, 4-6, and 10-7.
Carson Fisher dropped #3 singles to Fabian Telschow by final scores of 6-1, 3-6, and 14-12.
Robert McDaniel fell in #4 singles to Jeremy Williams by final scores of 6-3, 7-5, and 10-7.
Tyler Gonzales fdropped #5 singles to Hamilton Hall by final scores of 4-6, 6-3, and 10-7.
The Gorloks will return to the courts on Friday, March 15
th when they take on Catholic University of America (DC) in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The match is set to take place at 1:30 p.m. EST.
