Gorloks Eclipse Triple-Digits Led By Lancaster’s Career High 35 Points In Road Victory At Lyon

BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Webster University women's basketball team started a three-game conference road stand with a visit to Lyon College Thursday evening. The Gorloks eclipsed triple-digits for the second game in a row and defeated the Fighting Scots by the final score of 104-80. With the victory, Webster improves to 16-2 overall and 10-1 in conference play. 

WU's Bethany Lancaster tied the all-time single-game scoring record with a new career-high of 35 points while securing a game-high 13 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. In addition, she broke the all-time single-game field goals made mark in program history with 15 made baskets. 

Webster opened this decision red hot from the field that generated an early 13-2 advantage. In that stretch, Emily Kerce recorded seven points while Lancaster contributed four as Emily Wilson added a layup. Moments later, Lancaster added six consecutive points when Julie Diveney knocked down a three-pointer that stretched the lead to 22-6. 

Midway through the quarter, Webster and Lyon exchanged baskets that pushed the score to 29-17. With less than three minutes to go in the opening quarter, the Gorloks answered back with a 11-4 run that started on pairs of free-throws by Kaimyla Nolen and Wilson. WU's Lancaster closed out the quarter with five straight points that took the 40-21 advantage. With those 40 points scored, it marks the most points scored in any quarter this season.   

The Gorloks and Fighting Scots opened the second quarter trading layups as Lancaster and Nysa Gilchrist pushed the score to 46-25. Moments later, Lyon erupted for a 15-2 run that cut the lead down to seven at 48-41 that included a layup by Meghan Illingworth. WU's Claire Williams and LC's Molly Mason closed out the quarter by exchanging baskets that generated a 50-44 halftime advantage.  

Webster and Lyon opened the third quarter trading baskets that included six straight points by Lancaster that increased the lead back to double-digits at 56-46. Following a three-point basket by LC's Natalya Kaza, Webster responded with a 10-0 run that featured six points by Lancaster. In addition to Lancaster, Kerce drained a pair of free-throws while Williams added a layup that stretched the lead to 66-49. 

Midway through the quarter, the Gorloks answered with a 7-0 run that increased the lead to 73-51. In the run, Webster scored baskets from Illingworth, Williams, and Aleyna Sherman while Gilchrist cashed in on a free-throw. WU's Illingworth closed out the quarter scoring for the Gorloks with four consecutive points that generated the lead to 77-54. 

In the opening minutes of the final quarter, Kerce scored nine points while Lancaster added four points that stretched the lead to 90-60. Midway through the quarter, Lyon countered with a 7-1 run that featured a free-throw by Sherman that made the score 96-71. 

With just under three minutes to go, WU's Khamyri Jordan scored her first points in a Gorlok uniform by sinking a pair of free-throws. On the next Gorlok possession, Jordan went coast-to-coast and added a fastbreak layup. Moments later, Jordan cashed in a free-throw where she achieved a career-high of five points. WU's Avery Forrester returned to her home state and closed out the scoring for the game with a free-throw. 

In addition to Lancaster's career night of 35 points, Kerce recorded a new career-high of 18 points that included a pair of three-pointers. WU's Illingworth rounded out the double-figures scorers with 10 points while shooting four-of-six from the free-throw line. As a team, Webster generated a season-high 43 turnovers as Gilchrist led the team with seven while Nolen swiped five. Also, the Gorloks made a season-best 25 free-throws. 

The Gorloks will continue conference play on Saturday, February 1 with a trip to Mississippi University for Women starting at 1:00PM in Columbus, Mississippi.
