Nieroda Places Ninth Overall; Gorloks Earn Third Place At Trojan XC Invitational

HANNIBAL, Mo. - The Webster University men's cross country team competed in their second in-state race of the season last Saturday at the Trojan Invitational hosted by Hannibal-LaGrange University. Junior runner Ethan Nieroda ran a season-best 8k race that earned a ninth overall. As a team, the Gorloks earned third place that included four top-20 finishes.

Out of the field of 44 competitors, Nieroda paced the Gorloks with a new season-best time of 28:24.7 that earned ninth overall. With that time, he averaged a mile time of 5:42.9 and dusted his previous season-best by 44 seconds.

First-year Simon Muthemba was the second Gorlok that crossed the finish line as he recorded a new personal record with a time of 28:35.0 that earned 12th overall. With that time, he improved his personal record by 11 seconds.

Fellow first-year Brayden Halter was the next Webster student-athlete that crossed the finish line as he recorded a new personal record with a time of 28:48.5 which placed 13th overall.

Junior runner Johnny Imboden added to the team score by tying his season-best time with a time of 6:05.2 that placed 18th overall.

The next Gorlok that crossed the finish line was first-year Gabe Feaman with a time of 32:42.0. Fellow first-year Tyler Mooney also finished in the 32nd minute as he crossed the line with a time of 32:53.0. With that time by Mooney, he set a new personal record by 2:47 seconds.

First-year Dalton Bartlett rounded out the field for Webster with a new personal record time of 35:56.6. With that time, he beat his previous mark by 31.

"I'm proud of how hard the team worked today. We still have work to do, but they raced hard on a very challenging course. I am excited to see how much time we continue to drop as we head closer to postseason" said Head Coach Kyle Robinson.

The Gorloks will travel to Augustana College on Saturday, October 18th to compete in the Interregional Invitational at Saukie Golf Course starting at 12:30PM in Rock Island, Illinois.
