Women's Basketball Cruise Past Foresters 84-35 In Season Opener

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University women's basketball team opened the 2025-26 season by hosting the 2025 Webster Classic Tip-Off in Grant Gymnasium. The Gorloks erupted for 47 first half points and cruised past the Foresters 84-35 in the season opener. With the victory, it marks the fifth consecutive season with a season-opening victory. 

Webster opened the game with a 7-0 run that included a jumper by Miya Webb, a three-point basket by Claire Williams, and a layup by Meghan Illingworth. Following a basket by Lake Forest, the Gorloks closed out the quarter with a 13-2 run that included six points by first-year Chassity McCammon, four points by Williams, and was capped off with a three-pointer by Nolen that generated the 20-4 lead.

The Gorloks opened the second quarter with a lay-in by Emily Kerce and a three-point basket by Webb that stretched the lead to 25-4. Following those baskets, Webster and Lake Forest traded baskets to the score of 29-10 that included baskets by Williams and Illingworth. Moments later, Webster erupted for an 18-2 run that eventually closed out the quarter for the 47-12 halftime lead. In the run, Daijah Jones recorded five points while Kerce, Webb, and Akaela Caquelin recorded three points each. In addition, Nolen drained a pair of free-throws while Emma Smith added a layup.

The Gorloks opened the second half with an 8-2 run for the 55-14 lead that included four free-throws by Webb and layups by Nolen and Illingworth. Moments later, the Foresters added six unanswered points that made the score 55-20. 

Following that run by LFC, Webster closed out the quarter with a 16-5 run for the 71-25 lead that included eight points by Grace Hupp (two 3-pt baskets), four points by Caquelin, three points by Daijah Jones, and free-throw by Mattie Jones.  

Webster and Lake Forest opened the fourth quarter trading baskets to the score of 75-29 that included a three-point basket by Peyton Dolan and a free-throw by Hupp. Following those points by Dolan and Hupp, the Gorloks added nine more points for the game that included seven points by Addison Price and a basket by McCammon. 

For the game, Webb led with 12 points while Williams and Hupp contributed nine points each. In addition, Daijah Jones and McCammon recorded eight points while Nolen, Caquelin, and Price added seven points each. Nolen led with five assists while Webb recorded three assists. At the glass, McCammon led with six rebounds as Smith secured four. 

As a team, Webster recorded five blocks that included one each from Nolen, Illingworth, Kerce, Caquelin, and Havyn Green. All active players saw at least three minutes of playing time. In addition, the Gorloks scored 45 bench points, 40 points in the paint, and scored 38 points off Foresters turnovers.
