Hot Start Propels Webster to 76-64 Triumph Over University of the Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - The Webster University men's basketball team continued non-conference play with a visit to the University of the Ozarks on Saturday. The Gorloks secured their second double-digit victory of the season with a 76-64 victory over the Eagles. With the victory, Webster improves to 2-0 overall on the season. 

Webster opened the game with a 15-2 run that included six points by Dallas Harding-Fair, five points by Charles Nelson (3-pt and dunk) while Jemard Sykes II and Ethan Chartrand added a basket. Following a layup by the Eagles, the Gorloks added a 9-0 run that stretched the lead to 24-4 which included seven points by William Burroughs V while Chartrand contributed a layup. 

Moments later, the Eagles cut the lead to 25-11 with a 7-1 run that included back-to-back three-point baskets. Shortly later, Nelson responded with a pair of three-point baskets of his own that generated the 31-11 lead. With just under seven minutes left in the first half, the Eagles responded with a 15-5 run that made the score 36-26 which included five points by Sykes II. The Gorloks closed out the first half with a 6-0 run that included four points by Nkosi Constant and a basket by Adam Painter that generated the 42-26 halftime lead.

The Gorloks opened the second half with an 8-1 run that included four layups; two by Chartland and one each from Painter and Nelson for the 50-27 advantage. Following three free-throws by the Eagles, the Gorloks responded with a 9-2 run that made the score 59-32. In the run, Harding-Fair and Burroughs V added a basket while Kendall Horton drained a three-point basket as Chartrand and Sebastian Reed added a free-throw each.

Midway through the second half, the Eagles added a 7-0 run that made the score 59-39. Following the run, the Gorloks and Eagles traded baskets to the score of 65-47 which included four points by Horton and a layup by Justin UgoWith six minutes left in the game, sophomore Colin DeBold contributed five unanswered points that stretched the lead to 70-47. Shortly later, the Eagles added a 13-2 run that cut the deficit to 72-60 which included a layup by Nbaye Thiam. Nelson and Constant closed out the scoring for the Gorloks with layups that generated the final score. 

For the game, Nelson led the team with 16 points while shooting a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc. In addition, Chartrand and Burroughs V recorded nine points each as Harding-Fair contributed eight points. Nelson, Sykes II, and Burroughs V led the team with three assists each. At the glass, Sykes II recorded a team-high seven rebounds while Nelson secured five. 

As a team, the Gorloks shot 50.8 percent from the field and 46.7 percent from behind the arc. In addition, Webster outscored the Eagles 44-10 with points in the paint while adding 11 points off Eagles turnovers.
