Women’s Basketball Fall At Home To Augustana

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University women's basketball team opened a three-game homestand by hosting Augustana College (IL) Saturday afternoon in Grant Gym. The Gorloks fell to the Vikings by the score of 77-38. With the loss, Webster moves to 3-2 overall on the season. 

In the opening three minutes of play, Webster jumped out to the early 9-2 advantage that included three-point baskets from Claire Williams, Emily Kerce, and Miya Webb. Moments later, the Vikings countered with a 9-0 run as a layup by Emma Smith snapped the run and tied the game at 11 apiece. Augustana closed out the quarter scoring with two baskets that generated the 11-15 deficit. 

The Vikings opened the second quarter scoring with consecutive baskets that pushed the score to 11-19. Following the baskets by Augustana, first-years Havyn Green and Akaela Caquelin added a basket each that cut the deficit to 15-21. However, the Vikings closed the quarter with a 15-2 run that generated the 17-36 halftime deficit.  

Webster and Augustana opened the third quarter trading baskets to the score of 21-40 which included layups by Kerce and Webb. Less than a minute later, the Gorloks made the score 24-40 with two free-throws by Kerce and one by Kaimyla Nolen. Moments later, the Vikings closed out the quarter with a 20-0 run. 

The Gorloks and Vikings opened the fourth quarter exchanging baskets that included a three-point basket by Webb and layups by Nolen and Caquelin. The game continued with back-and-forth play that included a jumper by Peyton Dolan and another three-point basket by Webb. Following the basket by Webb, first-year guard Daijah Jones closed out the scoring for Webster with a pair of free-throws that generated the final score.   

For the game, Webb led with a team-high 11 points that included a three-of-four mark from behind the arc while Kerce contributed seven points. At the glass, Green recorded a career-high and team-high four rebounds as Webb, Caquelin, and Williams collected three each. Defensively, Caquelin earned a career-high five steals as Webb, Kerce, and D. Jones had two steals. 

The Gorloks will revert back to conference play on Wednesday, December 3rd hosting Blackburn College at 5:30PM.
