Gorloks Set 12 New Season-Highs and Eclipsed Triple-Digits In Victory Over Blackburn

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University women's basketball team continued their three-game homestand by hosting Blackburn College Wednesday evening in Grant Gym. The Gorloks eclipsed triple-digits for the first time this season and earned a 101-47 victory over the Beavers. As a team, the Gorloks set 12 new season-highs that range from all areas on the courts. With the victory, Webster improves to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

Webster opened the game with the early 7-2 advantage that started on a conventional and-one play by Miya Webb. Approximately 30 seconds after the Webb play, Akaela Caquelin got her career-night started with a three-point basket when Emily Kerce added a free-throw. 

Following a basket by the Beavers that made the score 7-4, the Gorloks erupted for a 15-0 run which generated the 22-4 lead. In the run, Claire Williams led with five points, Webb contributed four points while Kerce, Kaimyla Nolen, and Daijah Jones added two points each. 

With the 22-6 advantage, the Gorloks closed out the final three minutes of the quarter with a 16-1 run to the 38-7 lead which was led by Webb with five points. In addition to Webb, Caquelin converted a four-point play while Chassity McCammon recorded an and-one play. Also in the run, Havyn Green and Williams added two points each. 

The Gorloks opened the second quarter with an 8-2 run on three-point baskets by Emma Smith and Caquelin while Webb added a lay-in. Following the Webster run, Blackburn recorded a 5-0 run that made the score 47-14. Moments later, Grace Hupp and McCammon added a layup each for the 51-17 advantage. 

Webster closed out the first half with a 11-4 run that included a three-pointer by Webb and two points each from Kerce, Williams, Addison Price, and Caquelin which generated the 61-21 halftime lead.
 
Webster and Blackburn opened the third quarter exchanging baskets to the score of 70-27 that included a free-throw by Kerce, another three-point basket by Caquelin, a layup by Williams, and a pair of free-throws by Webb. Following layups by Williams and Webb, Caquelin and D. Jones stretched the Gorlok lead to 78-31 with a pair of free-throws each. 

For the final three minutes and 15 seconds of the quarter, Blackburn constructed a 10-5 run that made the score 83-41 as the five Webster points came from a pair of free-throws by Smith and a three-point basket by Hupp.

First-year Peyton Dolan opened the fourth quarter scoring for the Gorloks with three consecutive three-point baskets that made the score 92-45. Moments later, Webster closed out the game with a 9-2 run that included three points by Annie Sale, three by Price, two by Hupp, and a free-throw by MyLeia Campbell. 

For the game, Webb led with a season-high 22 points which included a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. First-year in Caquelin recorded a career-high 17 points that included a career-high four three-pointers. Williams contributed 13 points and led the team with a season-high six rebounds. Dolan recorded a career-high nine points on three-of-five shooting from behind the arc. 

Caquelin, Nolen, and D. Jones led with four assists each Kerce dished out three. At the glass, Williams secured a season-high and team-high six rebounds while Webb, Caquelin, Hupp, Price, and D. Jones grabbed five rebounds each,  

As a team, Webster recorded season-bests from all three areas of the court which included a  43.7 field goal percentage, an 38.2 percent clip from three-point land, and 76.5 percent from the free-throw line. In addition, Webster generated season-highs of 101 points, 52 rebounds, 34 free-throws attempted, 31 field goals made, 31 steals, 26 made free-throws, 21 assists, and 13 made three-point baskets. In addition, Webster recorded 43 points off Beavers turnovers, 41 bench points, 36 points in the paint, 22 second chance points, and 20 fast break points. 

The Gorloks will close out the homestand and start a four-game non-conference slate of games on Friday, December 12 hosting Saint Mary's College of Indiana at 2:00PM in Grant Gym.
