Chartrand’s Career High 30 Points, Reed’s Season High 24 Points Propel Gorloks to 101-85 Victory Over Lakers.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University men's basketball team continued non-conference play hosting Wright State University-Lake Campus for the Gorlok Classic Saturday evening in Grant Gym. The Gorloks eclipsed triple-digits for the first time this season and earned a 101-85 victory over the Lakers. WU's Ethan Chartrand led the team with a career-high 30 points on 13-of-14 from the field while Sebastian Reed recorded a season-high 24 points on 10-of-13 from the field. With the victory, Webster improves to 7-2 overall and 4-1 at home. 

In the opening minutes of play, the Gorloks jumped out to an early 12-3 advantage that included six points by Chartrand. In addition to Chartrand, Charles Nelson and Justin Ugo each added a basket while Adam Painter and Dallas Harding-Fair added a free-throw. Moments later, the Gorloks stretched the lead to 19-9 with a three-pointer by Nelson and layups Jemard Sykes II and Reed.

Following a layup by the Lakers, Chartrand responded with four consecutive points to the score of 23-11. Shortly later, the Gorloks and Lakers traded baskets to the score of 30-18 that included a three-pointer by Reed and jumpers by Nelson and Harding-Fair. 

Midway through the first half, Lake Campus got into foul trouble as Webster took full advantage of the bonus free-throws that started a 14-4 run. In the run, Harding-Fair and Colin DeBold knocked down a pair each while Ugo and Kendall Horton added one free-throw apiece. Following the free-throws, Chartrand capped off the run to the 44-24 advantage with eight straight points.

With five minutes to go in the first half, the Lakers added a 12-6 run to the score of 50-36 that included a three-point basket by Sykes II and Reed. In the final three minutes of the first half, the Gorloks added a 12-6 run on six points by Reed and two points from Painter and William Burroughs V that generated the 60-42 halftime lead. With these 60 points, it marks a new season-high for a first half of a game. 

Webster and WSU-Lake Campus opened the second trading three-point baskets to the score of 63-45 that came from Sykes II and WSU-Lake Campus's Kai Cook. Following a pair of free-throws by Cook, the Gorloks added a 7-0 run to the 70-47 lead on a three-pointer by Nelson and back-to-back layups by Reed. 

Between the minute markers of 16:10 and and 14:19, Sykes II and Chartrand added layups as Reed added a basket in the paint but Cook answered back for the Lakers on each Gorlok basket that made the score 76-55. Cook scored the first 13 points for the Lakers in the second half. 

The game of runs continued as the Lakers chipped back with a 12-2 run that made the score 78-67. Following the Lakers run, the Gorloks countered with a 9-0 run to the score of 87-67 that included four points by Chartrand, a three-pointer by DeBold, and a lay-in by Painter. 

Between the minute marks of 8:29 and 3:03, the Gorloks and Lakers exchanged baskets that made the score 96-76. In that span, Chartrand added four points while Nelson added three as Reed made a fastbreak layup. For the remainder of the game, the Gorloks added five points that included baskets in the paint by Chartrand and DeBold while Jalen Davis added a free-throw.  
  
For the game and in addition to Chartrand and Reed, Nelson and Sykes II achieved double-figures with 13 points and 10 points respectively. Nelson led the team with a career-high eight assists while Sykes II tied his season-high of nine rebounds. 

As a team, the Gorloks recorded a season-high 26 free-throw attempts, outscored the Lakers 56-38 with points in the paint and 40-27 in bench points. In addition, Webster shot 62.3 percent from the field, 50 percent from deep, and 65.4 percent from the free-throw line. 

The Gorloks will close out this Classic tomorrow afternoon hosting Harris-Stowe State University at 3:00PM in Grant Gym.
