Nelson Surpasses 1,000 Career Points Milestone In 83-64 Home Victory Over Harris-Stowe

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University men's basketball team closed out the 2025 Gorlok Classic with a decision against crosstown foe Harris-Stowe State University Saturday afternoon in Grant Gym. The Gorloks dominated the paint with a season-best 64 points that helped secure an 83-64 victory over the Hornets. WU's Charles Nelson surpassed the 1,000 career points milestone with a team-high 15 points. With the victory, Webster improves to 8-2 overall and 5-1 at home. 

In the opening minutes of play, Webster jumped out to the early 8-4 advantage that included four layups; two by Ethan Chartrand and one each by Adam Painter and Jemard Sykes II. The game continued with back-and-forth action to a tie at 14 apiece. In that span, Justin Ugo recorded four points while Chartrand added a lay-in. 

With just over 13 minutes in the first half, Webster recorded an 8-1 run that stretched their lead to 22-15 that included four points by Sebastian Reed and two points each from Kendall Horton and Ugo. Midway through, the Hornets added consecutive baskets that made the score 22-19. 

Between the minute marks of 8:19 - 4:40, the Gorloks erupted for a 14-0 run that stretched their lead to 36-19. In the run, Ugo and Nelson led with four points each as William Burroughs V and Chartrand added a basket each while Painter capped off with a pair of free-throws. 

Less than 30 seconds later, the Gorloks added a 10-4 run to the lead of 46-25 that included six points by Reed and a basket each from Painter and Nelson. Following a pair of free-throws by Harris-Stowe, Webster closed out the first half with a 7-4 run that included five points by Chartrand and a basket by Sykes II that generated the 53-31 halftime advantage. 

Ugo opened the second half scoring with four points that included a dunk and a layup that pushed the lead to 57-31. Moments later, the Gorloks and Hornets traded off identical 7-0 runs to the score of 64-38. In the Webster run, Nelson knocked a three-pointer while Dallas Harding-Fair and Reed added lay-ins. 

Between the minute markers of 14:46- 8:22, Webster and Harris-Stowe traded baskets to the score of 77-50. In that span, Nelson led with six points, Burroughs V contributed a three-pointer, and Reed and Painter added a basket each. With under eight minutes to go, the Hornets closed out the game with a 14-4 run as Horton and Jalen Davis added a layup each that generated the final score. 

In addition to Nelson, three other Gorloks achieved double-figure scoring marks as Ugo and Reed recorded 14 points each. Chartrand contributed 13 points while Painter added 10 points. At the glass, Ugo was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine rebounds while Harding-Fair collected six. 

As a team, Webster set a new season-best of 16 steals led by Burroughs V and Horton with three each. 

The Gorloks will close out their non-conference schedule of the season on Tuesday, December 30 with a road decision at Illinois College starting at 7:00PM in Jacksonville, Illinois.
