Gorloks Drop Tournament Finale To Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio. - The Webster University women's basketball team closed out tournament play at the 2025 Wittenberg University Tournament with a decision against Wittenberg Friday afternoon. The Gorloks battled the Tigers but fell short by the score of 44-70. WU's Grace Hupp led the team with 10 points. With the defeat, Webster moves to 5-4 overall this season. 

In the opening minutes of the game, Webster found themselves in an early 2-9 deficit which included a layup by Miya Webb. Moments later, Claire Williams knocked down a three-point basket which pushed the score to 5-9. Shortly later, the Tigers added a 16-5 run that pushed the score to 10-25 which included five points by Hupp. In the final minute of the quarter, Emma Smith and Havyn Green added a layup each that made the score 14-28.   

The Tigers opened the second quarter with a 10-0 run which was eventually snapped on a jumper by Smith that made the score 16-38. Approximately two and half minutes later, Miya Webb sank a three-point basket which generated the 19-40 halftime deficit

The Gorloks opened the third quarter scoring with a three-pointer by Hupp. Moments later, the Tigers countered with a 14-2 run that included a layup by Akaela Caquelin that made the score 24-54. Following that run, the Gorloks added five unanswered points to the score of 29-45 which included a layup by Williams and a three-pointer by Peyton Dolan. Wittenberg closed out the quarter with a 5-0 run that pushed the score to 29-59.

Hupp opened the fourth quarter scoring with a layup but the Tigers followed with five quick points to the score of 31-64. Approximately midway through the quarter, the Gorloks recorded a 9-2 run that started on a three-point basket by Daijah Jones. Moments later, Mattie Jones converted the conventional add-one play as Dolan cashed in on her second three-point basket of the game that made the score 40-66. In the final minute, M. Jones closed out the scoring for the game with a layup and a pair of free-throws that generated the final score. 

In addition to Hupp, M. Jones contributed seven points while Dolan added six points with a pair of three-point baskets. 

At the glass, Caquelin collected a team-high six rebounds as Webb and Hupp secured four. Defensively, Webb and Jones recorded two steals each while Chassity McCammon had one. As a team, the Gorloks outscored the Tigers bench 30-13.

The Gorloks will return home and continue non-conference play on Monday, December 29th hosting Centre College at 1:00PM in Grant Gym.
