WU’s Moore Jr Surpasses 1,000 Career Points In Victory Over Blackburn On Senior Night

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University men's basketball team closed out their home regular season schedule by hosting Blackburn College Wednesday evening for Senior Night. WU's senior forward Karl Moore Jr. accomplished the 1,000 career points milestone in fashion with a two-handed slam dunk. Three other Gorloks achieved double-figures that led to a 71-58 victory over the Beavers. With the victory, Webster improves to 13-11 overall and 12-5 in conference play  

Prior to the game, Head Coach Chris Bunch and his coaching staff honored three graduating seniors; Alpha Diallo, Gabe Mccrary, and Moore Jr.  

In the first six minutes of play, the Gorloks jumped out to an early 13-0 advantage that started on a slam dunk by Moore Jr. Moments later, Webster added three consecutive layups; two by McCrary and one by Josh Luster. WU's Jemard Sykes II got his night started with five quick points that made the score 13-0. 

Following five quick points by Blackburn's Nick Cook, Webster responded with an 8-0 run that started on back-to-back three-point baskets by Luster and Sykes II. WU's Justin Ugo increased the lead to 21-5 with a layup. Following a pair of three-point baskets by Blackburn, WU's Luster recorded five unanswered points that increased the lead to 28-11. For the final six minutes of the first half, Blackburn erupted for a 20-2 run that generated a one-point halftime deficit of 34-33.  

The Gorloks opened the second half with seven consecutive points by Sykes II that took the 40-36 lead. Following a three-point basket by Luster, WU's Sebastian Reed recorded six straight points for the Gorloks that increased the lead to double-digits at 55-45. With under eight minutes to go in regulation, Webster answered with an 8-2 run that included points in the paint by Reed, Moore Jr and Diallo. WU's Ugo capped off the run with a pair of free-throws that made the score 65-44. The Gorloks closed out the game shooting four-of-four from the line that sealed the victory.   

For the game, Sykes II led the team with 20 points that included a team-high four three-pointers. Luster contributed 15 points that included a pair of three-pointers. WU's Moore Jr historic night ended with 11 points as Reed rounded out double-figure scorers with 10 points. Diallo recorded a new career-high of 11 rebounds that led the team. 

As a team, Webster outscored Blackburn 38-22 with points in the paint and scored 20 points on second chance opportunities. 

The Gorloks will conclude the regular season this Saturday, February 22 with a short visit to Fontbonne University starting at 3:00PM in St. Louis, Missouri.
