Four Gorloks Secure Double-Figures In Dominant Victory Over Blackburn

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University women's basketball team hosted Blackburn College for their annual Pink Game Wednesday evening in Grant Gymnasium. Four Gorloks achieved double-figures that led to a dominate 96-41 victory over the Beavers. With the victory, Webster improves to 22-2 overall and 16-1 in conference play that includes 13 straight SLIAC victories. 

In the opening minutes of action, Webster jumped out to an early 9-2 advantage with four quick points by Emily Wilson, three by Bethany Lancaster, and a layup by Kaimyla Nolen. Immediately following a free-throw by Blackburn, the Gorloks constructed an 8-0 run that started on back-to-back mid-range jumpers by Nysa Gilchrist and Wilson. WU's Nolen and Meghan Illingworth capped off the run with a layup each that increased the lead to 17-3. Webster closed out the opening quarter with a 6-1 run that included four points by Illingworth and a pair of free-throws by Rylee Denbow that increased the lead to 23-6. 

The Gorloks opened the second quarter with consecutive points by Lancaster that stretched the lead to 29-10. Moments later, Emily Kerce and Aleyna Sherman knocked down consecutive three-point baskets that made the score 35-12. With six minutes left to go in the second quarter, the Gorloks erupted for a 14-2 run that eventually ended the quarter. The run was started on a layup by Wilson when Lancaster added consecutive baskets. Moments later,  Denbow followed up with a mid-range jumper. After a free-throw by Illingworth, Grace Hupp capped it off with a three-point basket that generated the halftime lead of 49-17.

Webster and Blackburn opened the second half exchanging baskets that included five points from Lancaster, three from Wilson, and a layup by Gilchrist that made the score 59-21. Midway through the quarter, the Gorloks answered with a 12-0 run that started on eight consecutive points by Wilson. WU's Sherman capped off the run with four points that included a three-point basket that stretched the lead to 71-23. The Gorloks and Beavers closed out the quarter trading baskets as a three-point basket by Denbow pushed the end of quarter score to 79-32. 

The Gorloks opened the fourth quarter with a 9-2 run that included five points from Nolen and layups by Illingworth and Denbow that made the score 88-34. Just before the midway mark, Webster increased the lead to 94-37 with back-to-back three-point baskets by Julie Diveney and Hupp. WU's Khamyri Jordan closed out the scoring for the Gorloks with a mid-range jumper. 

For the game, Wilson led the offensive attack with 19 points while shooting eight-of-10 from the field. Lancaster contributed 18 points while Illingworth recorded 12 points. WU's Denbow rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points while recording a new career-high of nine rebounds that led the team.

As a team, Webster outscored Blackburn 52-4 in bench points while earning 34 points of Beavers turnovers. 

The Gorloks will close out the regular season this Saturday, February 22 with a visit to Fontbonne University starting at 1:00PM in St. Louis, Missouri.
