Gorloks' Red-Hot Shooting Leaves Red Devils Ice Cold in Blowout Victory

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University men's basketball team continued conference hosting Eureka College for the annual SLIAC Coaches vs Cancer game Saturday afternoon in Grant Gymnasium. The Gorloks cruised past the Red Devils of Eureka College by the final score of 93-59. With the victory, Webster improves to 11-10 overall and 10-4 in conference play. 

In the opening five minutes of play, Webster and Eureka battled back-and-forth that led to a 9-6 Gorlok advantage. In that stretch, Karl Moore contributed five quick points while Jemard Sykes II and Josh Luster added a basket each. Less than a minute later, the Red Devils took the 10-9 advantage with four unanswered points. Moments later, the Gorloks answered with a 5-0 run that included three points by Justin Ugo and a layup by Sykes II that took the 14-10 advantage. 

Midway through the first half, Webster erupted the pack crowd with a 27-2 run that eventually closed out the half. In the run, Ugo led the balance attack with seven points while Jonah Hibbert and Sykes II contributed five apiece. In addition, Moore Jr added four points in the paint while Gabe Mccrary added a lay-in. Will Burroughs and Jacob Schafer closed out the half with back-to-back three-pointers that took the 47-20 halftime lead. 

The Gorloks opened the second half red hot from the field and shot 8-of-10 from the field that included 5-of-6 from behind the arc. During that stretch, Lusted knocked a trio of three-point baskets while Reed and Sykes II netted one apiece.  In addition, the balance attack featured points in the paint by Moore Jr, Reed, and Luster. At the free-throw line, John Renken and Booker Simmons knocked down a pair each that increased the lead to 73-32.  

Just under the halfway mark in the half, the Gorloks added six points at the free-throw line as Jalen Davis contributed three while Amarion Mohair sank a pair as Will Burroughs added one that made the score 79-45. With less than five minutes in regulation, Allen Grahovic added five quick points that included a three-point basket and a layup when Jacob Schafer followed up with a pair of free-throws that pushed the lead to 86-50. The Gorloks closed out the game with a 7-2 run that started on back-to-back baskets by Mohair and Simmons. WU's Tanguy Attie secured his first collegiate points with the final basket of the game. 

For the game, Luster led the offensive attack with 13 points that included three-of-five from behind the arc. In addition, Sykes II, Moore Jr, and Ugo contributed 12 points each as Moore Jr recorded the two blocks. As a team, Webster shot 50 percent from the field and 47.8 percent from behind the arc. In addition, Webster held Eureka to 33.3 percent from the field and 16.1 percent from behind the arc. 

The Gorloks will continue conference play on Wednesday, February 12 with a road trip to Spalding University starting at 7:30PM (ET) in Louisville, Kentucky.
