Men’s Tennis Fall To Principia In Regular Season Finale

ELSAH, Ill. - The Webster University men's tennis team closed out the regular season with a road match at Principia College on Thursday evening. The Gorloks won two doubles matches but fell in singles play by the final score of 1-6. Webster ends the regular season with an overall record of 8-10.  

Webster and Principia opened the match with doubles competition as the Gorloks won two matches from the number one and three matches. In the number one doubles match, the No.6 ranked Region VII team of Matthew Birchmeier and Ethan Foucheaux extended their win streak to 12 matches with a 6-3 victory. 

In the number three doubles match, the team of Nicholas Granada and Andrew McDonald worked fantastic together and earned a 6-3 victory. 

In the number two doubles matches, the duo of Carson Fisher and Jack Forlenza captured one set victory but fell by the score of 1-6. 

In singles play, the Gorloks battled closely against the Panthers but unfortunately dropped all six matches. In the number one match, Foucheaux lined up against Nacho Cachaza and opened the match with a 6-4 victory. However, Cachaza responded with a 6-4 victory tha forced a tiebreaker set. In the tiebreaker set, Foucheaux earned one set victory that unfortunately dropped the match. 

In the second singles match, Fisher battled his opponent Jesus Soto Bossa and captured seven set victories but dropped the match by the scores of 3-6 and 4-6. 

In the third singles match, Birchmeier faced off against Ernesto Botero and opened the match with a 7-5 victory. In the second set, Birchmeier won three set victories but dropped the set by the score of 3-6 that forced a third set. In the third set, Birchmeier secured two sets but dropped the match by the score of 2-6. 

In the fourth singles match, Granada lined up against Ignacio Zamora and earned two set victories but dropped the match in straight sets by the scores of 0-6 and 2-6. 

In the fifth singles match, Forlenza battled against Christian Tresoldi closely and captured nine set victories but dropped the match by the scores of 4-6 and 5-7. 

In the sixth singles match, Shawn Smith faced off against Alfredo Boly as both student-athletes displayed back-and-forth play in both sets. Smith secured four set victories in set one and five set victories in set two but unfortunately dropped the march by the scores of 4-6 and 5-7.
