Gorloks Secure Third Place In UMAC South Men’s Tennis Tournament With 6-0 Victory Over MUW

Box Score 1 ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University men's tennis team competed in the 2025 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) South Men's Tennis Championships on Saturday at Dwight Davis Tennis Center. The Gorloks dropped the semifinals match to Principia College by the score of 2-4 and captured third place in the tournament with a 6-0 victory over Mississippi University for Women. Webster ends the 2024-25 academic season with a 9-11 overall record. 

Match 1: Webster 2, Principia 4

Webster and Principia opened the match with doubles competitions as the Gorloks captured one doubles victory which came in the third doubles match. In that match, the team of Nicholas Granada and Jack Forlenza shutout their opponents for the 6-0 victory. 

In the number two doubles match, the duo of Carson Fisher and Eli Bartek secured one set victory but dropped the match by the score of 1-6. 

In the number one doubles match, the No. 5 ranked Region VII doubles team of Ethan Foucheaux and Matthew Birchmeier battled their opponents and earned five set victories but fell just short by the score of 5-7.

In singles play, Webster captured two singles victories that came from the No. 5 and No. 6 matches. In the number five singles match, Granada lined up against Christian Tresoldi and opened the match with a 6-3 victory. In the second set, both student-athletes battled back-and-forth as Granada fell late by the score of 7-6 that forced a tiebreaker set. In the tiebreaker set, Granada got off to an early lead and cruised to a 7-2 victory that won the match. 

In the sixth singles match, Forlenza was tasked against Alfredo Boly and opened the match with a 6-3 set victory. In the second set, it was all Forlenza as he dominated Boly by the score of 6-1 that won the match. 

In the number one singles match, Foucheaux faced off against Nacho Cachaza and captured four set victories but dropped the match by the scores of 4-6 and 0-6. 

In the second singles match, Fisher lined up against Jesus Soto Bossa as Fisher dropped the opening set by the score of 2-6. In the second set, Fisher and Bossa battled back-and-forth and exchanged points to a tie at 6-6 that forced a tiebreaker set. In the tiebreaker set, Fisher and Bossa traded points and fought hard but dropped the set by the score of 4-7. 

In the fourth singles match, Bartek lined up against Ignacio Zamora and captured four set victories but fell in straight sets by the scores of 2-6. 


Match 2: Webster 6, MUW 0

Webster and MUW opened the match with doubles competitions as the Gorloks jumped out to a fantastic 3-0 advantage with three victories. In the number one doubles match, Birchmeier and Foucheaux shutout their opponents by the score of 6-0. 

In the number two doubles match, seniors Fisher and Chase Boushard teamed up for the final time and defeated their opponents by the score of 6-2.

In the third doubles match, seniors Andrew McDonald and Robert McDaniel played in their final doubles match of their Gorlok careers and defeated their opponents by the score of 6-2. 

In singles play, Webster swept all six matches that gendered the shutout victory. In the number one singles match, Fisher faced off against Paul Gaines as Fisher eliminated Gaines by the score of 8-2. 

In the second singles match, Birchmeier lined up against Lucas Suggs and defeated Suggs by the score of 8-2. 

In the third single match, McDonald was tasked against Jaylen Lewis as both student-athletes exchanged points to a tie at 6-6. With the match tied, McDonald outlasted the battle against Lewis with back-to-back points that won the match by the final score of 8-6. 

In the fourth singles match, Shawn Smith faced off against Tyler Bailey as both student-athletes opened the match exchanging points to a tie at six apiece. With the match tied, Smith outdueled Bailey with back-to-back points that won the match by the score of 8-6. 

In the fifth singles match, Boushard was lined up against Jasper Poag as both student-athletes opened with match trading points to a tie at seven apiece. Boushard closed out the match by scoring back-to-back points that secured the 9-7 victory. 

In the sixth singles match, McDaniel eliminated his opponent Trevor Davis by the score of 7-1 which helped secure the shutout victory.
