BROWNSBURG, Ind. – The Webster University men's tennis team had four Gorloks compete at the ITA Central Regional Championships on Oct. 2-4 at Brownsburg High School, as Juan Jose Munoz and Shawn Smith competed in singles while Griffin Olson and Gavin Jenkins teamed up in doubles.
Munoz competed in Flight A singles, opening the tournament against Neil Zouaoui of DePauw University. Zouaoui took the match by scores of 6-1 and 6-1.
Munoz then moved into the consolation draw, where he faced Ned Curley of Hope College. Curley earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory to conclude Munoz's weekend.
Smith competed in Flight C singles and opened against Blake Smith of Hope College. Blake Smith earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the opening round.
In the consolation draw, Smith faced Ettore Bona of Wabash College. Bona went on to earn a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
In doubles action, Olson and Jenkins opened the tournament against Colton Hulme and Noah Garcia Barlagne of Greenville University. The Greenville duo earned an 8-1 victory.
Olson and Jenkins then competed in the consolation draw, where they faced Jake Fascione and Lucas Silveira of Hanover College. The Hanover pair earned an 8-2 victory.
The Gorloks will continue their fall schedule on Saturday, Oct. 10, when Webster hosts a pair of matches at the Webster Groves Recreational Complex. Webster will face Westminster College (Mo.) at 9 a.m. before taking on Missouri Baptist University JV at 4 p.m.
