Dolan’s Career-High 14 Points Leads Gorloks Over Blackburn 80-62; Extends SLIAC Win Streak To Six Games

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The Webster University women's basketball team continued conference play with a visit to Blackburn College on Wednesday night. The Gorloks jumped out to a 20-point first quarter lead and paced the Beavers to an 80-63 victory. With the victory, Webster improves to 11-6 overall, 8-1 in conference play, and extends SLIAC win streak to six games.  

Webster opened the decision in an early 1-4 deficit but responded with a 9-0 run that took the 10-4 lead. In the run, Dolan got her career-night started with a three-point as Miya Webb followed up with three consecutive points. The run was capped off with a three-pointer by Claire Williams.

Following a basket by Blackburn, Webster countered with a 12-0 run that started with three free-throws; one by Grace Hupp and a pair by Meghan Illingworth. Following those makes, Daijah Jones added a layup when Kerce capped off the run with five consecutive points that generated the 22-6 lead. 

With just over two minutes to go in the quarter, the Beavers added a basket but the Gorloks closed out the quarter with a 6-0 run on four points from Kerce and a layup by Kaimyla Nolen that pushed the score to 28-8. 

Dolan opened the second quarter scoring for the Gorloks with back-to-back three-pointers as Webb followed up with a layup that stretched the score to 36-12. Following a free-throw by Blackburn, Webster added a 6-0 run to the 42-13 lead on three layups; two by Illingworth and one by Hupp. 

Shortly later, Blackburn added a 5-2 run that made the score 44-18. The Gorloks closed out the quarter with a 6-0 run on layups from Chassity McCammon, Kerce, and Terryn Ford that generated the 50-18 halftime score.  

Webster opened the second half with a 9-3 run to the 59-21 advantage that included four points each from Nolen and Webb while Hupp added a free-throw. With under six minutes to go in the quarter, Blackburn recorded a 7-3 run to the score of 62-28 that included a free-throw by Kerce and a layup by Illingworth.

Shortly later, Webster and Blackburn traded free-throws to the score of 66-34. In that span, Mattie Jones sank two while Kerce and Illingworth made one each. Right before the quarter ended, Blackburn added a three-pointer that pushed the score to 66-37.

Webster and Blackburn opened the fourth quarter trading points to the score of 74-45 that included five points from Dolan and three from McCammon. Moments later, the Beavers constructed a 13-2 run to the score of 76-58 that included a free-throw each from Webb and Williams. For the final minute and a half of regulation, WU's Illingworth and BC's Zoe Mitchell added four points each that generated the 80-62 final score. 

For the game, four Gorloks achieved double-figures led by Dolan with 14 points that included 4-of-5 from 3pt (career-high). Webb, Illingworth, and Kerce recorded 13 points each. In addition, Nolen had a great complete game that included six points, six rebounds, and seven assists (season-high). WU's McCammon secured career-highs of 10 rebounds and two blocks.

As a team, Webster recorded 44 points in the paint, 33 points off turnovers, 30 bench points, and 25 fast break points.

The Gorloks will close out a two-game roadstand and play in their final non-conference game of the season on Saturday, January 31 against Knox College starting at 1:00PM in Galesburg, Illinois.
