Men’s Basketball Captures SLIAC Regular Season Title With 75-62 Victory Over Eureka

EUREKA, Ill. - The Webster University men's basketball team continued conference play with a road visit to Eureka College Wednesday evening. Five student-athletes achieved double-figures that secured a 75-62 victory over the Red Devils. With the victory, the Gorloks improves to 20-2 overall, captured the 2025-26 SLIAC Men's Basketball Regular Season title (with three games left), and extended their undefeated conference record to 13-0.    

In the opening minutes of play, Webster jumped out to a quick 9-0 advantage that included two three-pointers by Jemard Sykes II and three points by Adam Painter. Moments later, the Red Devils chipped back with a 9-2 run that cut the lead to 11-9. 

With under 12 minutes to go in the opening half, the Gorloks countered with a 13-5 run that started on a free-throw by Nbaye Thiam. Following that point, Sebastian Reed sank a jumper when Charles Nelson followed up with a three-pointer. Moments later, Justin Ugo recorded five consecutive points when Kendall Horton capped off the run with a pair of free-throws that generated the 24-14 lead. 

Shortly later, the Red Devils added a 9-4 run that pushed the score to 28-23 as Painter added a free-throw while Ethan Chartand sank a three-pointer. Webster and Eureka closed out the first half trading points to the 34-32 Gorlok halftime lead that included two points each from Reed, Ugo, and Nelson. 

Webster and Eureka opened the second half trading points to the Gorlok lead of 40-37 which included three points by Painter and Sykes II. Moments later, the Gorloks recorded a 12-0 run that started on a three-pointer by Sykes II. Shortly later, Reed added a jumper when Nelson followed up with a three-pointer. Approximately one minute later, Dallas Harding-Fair added a layup when Sykes II capped off the run with a jumper that pushed the lead to 52-37. 

Less than 15 seconds later, Eureka chipped back with a 10-2 run that made the score 54-47.
Between the minute markers of 11:54 and 6:05, the Gorloks added an 8-0 run that pushed the lead to 62-47 that included two points by Harding-Fair, Horton, and Sykes II while Ugo and Painter added a free-throw each. 

For the final five minutes of play, Webster and Eureka traded points to the final buzzer that started on four consecutive points by Ugo. Moments later, Nelson added a jumper when Painter followed up with an add-one play. Reed and Sykes II closed out the scoring for Webster with a pair of free-throws each. 

For the game, Sykes II led all student-athletes with 18 points that included four-of-seven from behind the arc and three steals. In addition, Nelson recorded 12 points and a team-high four assists. Ugo sniffed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. WU's Painter recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Reed rounded out double-figures with 10 points and collected seven rebounds. 

As a team, Webster scored 20 points in the paint, 18 points on second chance opportunities, and 12 points off turnovers. 

The Gorloks will play their final regular season home game this Saturday, February 14 hosting the Panthers of Greenville University starting at 3:00PM in Grant Gym.
