Davis Leads Gorloks Past Principia 87-67 On Senior Day; Secures 12th Consecutive SLIAC Victory

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University men's basketball team closed out a three-game homestand by hosting Principia College on Saturday for Senior Day. Webster jumped out to an early 20-point lead and rolled past the Panthers 87-67. Three Gorloks secured double-figures which was led by senior St. Louis native Jalen Davis 17 points (tied career-high). With the victory, Webster improved to 19-2 overall, extended their undefeated conference win streak to 12 games, and secured a four-game lead for first in SLIAC standings.

Prior to the game, the Webster University men's basketball team honored eight student-athletes and one student-assistant coach for Senior Day which included Tanguy Attie, Nkosi Constant, Andrew Hall, Jacob Schafer, Ethan Chartrand, Adam Painter, Jemard Sykes II, Davis, and Kyle Knickrehm. 

In the opening minutes of play, the Gorloks jumped out to an early 8-2 lead that included six points (one three-pointer) by Davis and a put-back slam dunk by Constant. Following a three-pointer by Principia, Webster constructed a 15-3 run that stretched the lead to 23-8. In the run, Kendall Horton led with five points while Painter added four points as Justin Ugo, Charles Nelson, and Sebastian Reed contributed a basket each.

With approximately nine minutes to go in the first half, the Panthers added a 10-2 run that cut the lead to 28-21. In the final five and half minutes of the half, the Gorloks recorded a 13-4 run led by Charles Nelson with five points and two points each from Painter, Ugo, Reed, and Horton that generated the 41-25 halftime lead. 

Principia opened the second half with a 12-4 run that pushed the score to 45-37 as Ugo and Painter added a basket each. Moments later, Webster countered with an 11-2 run that started on a pair of free-throws by Nelson. Less than a minute later, Painter added consecutive jumpers when Nbaye Thiam followed up with a pair of free-throws. Davis capped off the run with an and-one play that pushed the lead to 56-39. 

Immediately following the Webster run, Principia knocked down consecutive three-pointers that made the score 56-45 but that was the closest margin the Panthers would get for the remainder of the game. With just over 11 minutes to go, the Gorloks recorded a 13-0 run that pushed the lead to 70-45 which included five points by Davis, a three-pointer by Schafer, and six consecutive points by Ugo.

With six minutes and half minutes left on the clock, Webster added an 8-2 run that started on a pair of free-throws by Hall. Moments later, Schafer and Davis capped off the run with back-to-back three-pointers that pushed the lead to 78-49. Shortly later, the Panthers constructed a 14-2 run that pushed the score to 80-63. The Gorloks closed out the final two and a half minutes with a 7-4 run that included a three-pointer by Hall, a layup by William Burroughs V, and a dunk by Constant. 

In addition to Davis, Painter recorded 13 points and secured seven rebounds. Ugo contributed 12 points, three rebounds, and two blocks. Nelson added nine points, secured six rebounds, and dished out three assists. Senior center in Constant tied his career-high with six points and collected a career-high eight rebounds. As a team, Webster outscored Principia 46-30 with points in the paint and outrebounded the Panthers 48-34. 

The Gorloks will continue conference play on Wednesday, February 11 with a road trip to Eureka College starting at 7:30PM in Eureka, Illinois.
