Men’s Tennis Earn First Victory Of Spring Season With 4-3 Win Over Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. - The Webster University men's tennis continued non-conference play with a visit to Monmouth College. The Gorloks overcame an early deficit and won four single matches to win by the score of 4-3. 

In doubles competitions, Webster secured one victory which came from the number one doubles team of Griffin Olson and Nicholas Granada. This duo battled back-and-forth against their opponents and won by the score of 6-4.

In the number two doubles match, the team of Jack Forlenza and Shawn Smith went toe-to-toe with their opponents but fell late by the score of 6-7. 

In the final doubles match, Monmouth won the match by default.

In singles play, the Gorloks won four matches that secured the victory. In the number one singles match, Olson took down his opponent in a tight battle by the scores of 6-4 and 6-3. 

In the number two singles match, Forlenza dominated his opponent in both sets and won by the scores of 6-1 and 6-0. 

In the number three singles match, Granada allowed only three set victories to his opponent and won by the scores of 6-1 and 6-2. 
 
In the number four singles match, Smith lost the opening set by the score of 7-5 but responded with a 6-3 second set victory that forced a third set. In the third set, Smith and his opponent went back-and-forth but Smith outlasted the competition with a 10-7 victory. 

In the number five singles match, Patricio Santos competed hard but fell by the scores of 0-6.

In the number six singles match, Monmouth won the match by default.
